As part of the launch team at Al Jazeera English News, he spent a decade covering some of the biggest stories around the world, including three years as Programme Editor of Al Jazeera’s flagship discussion show, Inside Story.
Since turning freelance, the British journalist has spent three years as an Executive Producer at Qatar Media Corporation, contributing to the coverage of the 2022 World Cup and helping to lay the groundwork for a new English-language digital platform.
Russel has also expanded into the independent sector, providing scriptwriting and voiceover services to Qatar’s ministries and leading corporations. His versatility extends to moderating discussion panels, hosting podcasts, and appearing on camera for video and photo shoots, as well as television and film projects.
Alongside his spouse, Russel has successfully co-managed a thriving business in Qatar since 2008.
